Win Tickets for The Electric Frog, Glasgow - Featuring Mogwai, Errors, Wild Beasts...

Since the demise of Tryptich, Glasgow has been left somewhat devoid of in-the-city events, however, with the addition of The Electric Frog this looks set be rectified. The event which is being put on by a collaboration of promoters, which include Liquid Events, SWG3, Slam Events/Pressure and Synergy Concerts, sees a range of DJs and artists being brought together for quite an eclectic wee bill. The event which takes places on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th, features a full day of programmed live performances on the Sunday with the Saturday having more of a DJ/Electronic aspect. The event which was originally scheduled for April of this year, but was pushed back now boasts a much stronger line of bands which includes Mogwai, Wild Beasts, The Fall and Errors amongst others.

To be in with a chance to win a pair of tickets for the event all you have to do is answer this very easy question:

What is the name of the lead singer of The Fall?

Send your answers to me at peenkoblog@gmail.com with 'The Electric Frog' in the subject line. The winner will be chosen completely at random, with the competition closing next Saturday (3rd Sept).

Tickets for the event are £50 for the weekend, or £27.50 for a day ticket and you can buy them from the following stores: Tickets Scotland, Ticket Web, Cafe Rio - Hyndland Street (with no booking fee), Ripping Records in Edinburgh and Grouchos in Dundee.

A couple of videos for y'all

Earlier this evening I had the great pleasure of finishing up slightly earlier from work to nip along to Love Music in Glasgow to catch French Wives playing a wee instore in support of their new EP 'Feel Safe Small ' which came out today. This in turn reminded me that I had meant to post up the video to 'Covered in Grace' to share with you all, so here it is in all of it's glory

It was also pointed out to me that I missed one of the tracks from the session that Mogwai did for 6Music on Friday there, which I have now fixed. Sorry about that, but they missed it off the track listing on the website, that's my excuse and I am sticking with it. Anyway, here's a video from the session that they recorded for Vic Galloway last month.

Friday Freebies

This weeks freebies was sponsored by the letter J. J is for Jim. Jim is also known as Ayetunes (or the ginger bunny) and he very kindly tipped me off about a lot of these freebies. For that I am very thankful and so should you be.

Mogwai
Scotland's finest post rock outfit are set to release their new album, ' Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will' next month. If you can't wait that long then you're in luck as you can now download "San Pedro" from it here.

Findo Gask
The electropop outfit might well have called it a day, but all is not lost as they've posted up their single 'Go Faster Stripe' for download on their Bandcamp. It's not necessarily a freebie, it's one of those pay what you want downloads, whether you decide to pay is up to you. Just make sure you download it, as it's a corking wee single, from a sadly missed band.

Withered Hand & Woodpigeon
Edinburgh's finest, Withered Hand sets off on UK tour with Canadian artist Woodpigeon later this month, in celebration of this they've posted up this cover they did together of Velvet Underground's 'I'm Set Free'.

The Head And The Heart
No sooner had I tipped the Seattle outfit as one of my ones to watch in 2011, then the next thing you know they've signed up to Sub Pop in the US and Heavenly for the rest of the world. Yes, that's right I am taking all the credit for it, or perhaps not. To celebrate this awesome news they're giving away a free download of their song 'Down in the Valley' on their website.

Pablo Eskimo
The Glasgow outfit posted this cracking wee video of their song Dot Dot Dot yesterday, in celebration of this momentous occasion they've made the song available to download for free. Just follow this link and use the code code fl8u-5mm3. Hey presto you've got yourself a free tune.

FOUND
Last week we had FOUND doing a wee remix of King Creosote, this weeks freebie sees Kenny returning the favour. Awesome stuff. As if that wasn't enough they've also made a cracking wee remix featuring an array of artists including Bon Iver, Silver Columns and Malcolm Middleton, download it here.

Evening Chorus
For those of you with good memories, you might remember that I had the Evening Chorus as one of my ones to watch in 2010. The Welsh folk outfit might not have quite become house hold names, but they still released some pretty amazing material. This year they look as if they're going to be at it again, their new single 'No Wreath, No Crown' is sounding pretty fucking awesome to me. Download it for free here.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
The New York experimentalists return to the UK in April for a joint tour with Rival Schools, not an evening to be missed. To mark their return RCRD LBL have made their new song 'Weight of the Sun' available for free.

French Wives
Some of you might have noticed that I have really been enjoying my weekly free downloads from those lovely French Wives. This week they've posted up their cover of Passion Pit's 'Sleepyhead' recorded for the Beeb at Rockness. I don't know for certain, but I am pretty sure that they must have downloaded it from this here blog and now here I am posting a link to download it elsewhere. I am sure there's a certain degree of irony in there too. The 'Wives have just announced a full Scottish tour for next month in support of their new 4 track EP, 'Feel Safe Small', which is due out on Mon 21st of February.

Beneath Us The Waves
This freebie came in just at the last minute, courtesy of our friend Neil Milton who goes under the name of Beneath Us The Waves. He recently came across track that he had almost no recollection of recording. Being the kind soul that he is, he's stuck it on bandcamp for folk to take if they want to.

Old Monk
The exciting new Brooklyn lo-fi outfit have made their new single 'Butter & Toast' available to download for free on their Bandcamp.

On Volcano
My partner in crimer, Jim AyeTunes posted about this Finnish band earlier in the week, if you fancy checking out what made him decide to post about a non-Scottish band then you can download their new EP for free here.

The Soft Collapse
Brookyln anti-folkers, The Soft Collapse have made their album 'Little Songs' available to download for free on their Bandcamp page, rather beautiful it is too!

The Deloreans

Download 'American Craze' from their Bandcamp.

Young Circles

Their EP 'Bear Bones' is free to download on their Bandcamp.

Male Pattern Band

Male Pattern Band stuck their first EP up as a free download here

Cheer
Techinically not a freebie, as it's one of those pay what you want downloads, either way you can find 'Breezes in the Abyss' a new album for Cheer on his Bandcamp.

Bedroom Problems
There are a whole load of freebies up for grabs on their Bandcamp.

Conquering Animal Sound
RCRD LBL have a free download of Conquering Animal Sound's remix of Sea of Bees’ “Wizbot”.

Friday Freebies

Thirty Pounds Of Bone
I want to start this post by apologising to Phil at Elba Sessions, for almost a year he's been raving about Thirty Pounds Of Bone, did I pay any attention to him, did I bollocks. Along comes Al from Armellodie and suddenly I find myself raving about him. Phil you were right all along and I'm sorry. If you fancy finding out what he was getting all excited about then you're in luck as you can download his song Crack Shandy in the Harbour taken from his forthcoming album Method, for free here.

Admiral Fallow
For any of you out there who have tickets to see Frightened Rabbit on their UK tour, make sure you get your backside down nice and early as these guys (n girl) are the opening act. Already fairing pretty well on a number of Scottish bloggers album of the year lists, if you haven't already checked them out then now is the time to get yourself acquainted. There are two free downloads up for grabs on their Bandcamp page, an alternative version of their song 'Delivered', plus as if that wasn't enough the rather fabulous 'Subbuteo' is also up for grabs too on their Bandcamp. I should also like to point out that it was my good friend Luke (aka I Build Collapsible Mountains) that took the picture of the Subbuteo figurine. Also, Jamie - that is what happened to your Everton player....

French Wives
Having recently picked the first ever Scotsman Radar Prize a few weeks back, those lovely French Wives aren't ones to rest on their laurels. Continuing on with their series of Home Fires posts, on Monday they posted up their song 'We're All Away'. You can get it for free here, be quick though as it'll only be up for a few more days.

FOUND
Last Sunday I saw FOUND for the first time in ages and it confirmed it one thing for me, the release of their new album on Chemikal Underground is going to be pretty damn special. Until it's release we're going to have to make do with their weekly freebie, as always I do this in advance so I have no idea what this song is going to be. All I know is that you can get it here.

King Creosote
Ever wondered what Mr Anderson would sound like covering Underworld, then wonder no more as you can pick yourself up a free download of his take of 'Always Loved A Film' here.

Trapped Mice
Up and coming Edinburgh starlets, Trapped Mice are set to release their first proper EP, 'Portrait of the Great Father' on the 4th of December as a limited edition run of CD's. Being the kind souls that they are, they've posted up the EP for free download already, you can find it here.

Mogwai
Scotland's finest postrockers return with their new album, 'Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will' on the 14th of February, stuff flowers I know what I am buying Mrs Peenko for Valentines Day this year. If you head over to Pitchfork just now then you'll find a wee link to download 'Rano Pano' from it for nowt. While I'm thinking about Pitchfork, what the fuck was that 10/10 review for Kanye West all about, fucking hipsters....

Capitals

Lykke Li

Gang Of Four
The Guardian has posted up a free download of a new EP from old school punks, Gang Of Four, you can get yer grubby little paws on it here.

Kate And After
Our good friend Kowalskiy featured this Swedish band a few weeks back, being a bit slow to give the a listen. They're on my never ending to do lost, but I am going to trust the docs judgement with this one, you can too by downloading their EP 'Things To Do' for free here.
