Friday Freebies

I Build Collapsible Mountains
Last week, the legend that is Luke Joyce designed that pretty new banner you see above, then he went and topped it all off by tipping me off about this band. At first he failed to mention that it's his own little side project, which was kind of embarrassing as I had gotten highly over excited and started gushing over it. God I sound like such a girl sometimes. Anyway, there are three songs available for free download on their Bandcamp page. I strongly suggest you check them out, then you can gush too (did I just make the word gush seem really rude?).

The Douglas Firs
Aberdeen/Edinburgh shoegazers, The Douglas Firs have put two unreleased songs up for free download, Acolyte Firelight Diorama and Whiteman's Tribal Diorama can both be downloaded for free over on their blog page.

Randolph's Leap
Their new EP, 'Eerie Indie Adam', is up for free download on their Bandcamp page.

Jack James
The Glasgow indie-folkster has just posted his new album, 'Quarter Life-Crisis' up for free download on his Bandcamp page.

Blackbird Blackbird
Let's Move On Together EP is free to download on his Bandcamp page.

How to Destroy Angels
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame has a new project entitled How to Destroy Angels, and they have put their first EP up for free, you can download it here.

Winning Sperm Party
The amazing Scottish indie label has put not one, but two of their new releases up for free download. Head on over to their homepage where you can find an EP from Rory McIntyre and an album from Eternal Fags.

Debutant
Having recently released an excellent split single with Conquering Animal Sound on Edinburgh label Gerry Loves Records. Now the one man Edinburgh dream pop outfit have posted two songs to download, 'Definition' and 'La Pucelle' can be had for free on his Bandcamp.

Hot Hot Heat
We had some Hot Hot Heat last week but there's another track from their forthcoming album, Future Breeds available here. I really like this, makes me want to listen to them again after the disaster that was Happiness LTD.

The Drums
Anyone like The Drums? Not too into them myself but there's a cracking remix of Forever And Ever, Amen by St Etienne. If you don't at least nod your head and tap your feet a wee bit then you're not human. Get it here.

Curators

After doing some snooping about, our good friend 'The Doc', has come up with this little gem, a live recording (26 minute 26 second long MP3) of the Curators entire set from Stereo (22/04/10). Its posted on their Facebook but you don't have to be a member to access it. The direct mp3 link is here. "The sound quality is great, apart from the sound engineer burping twice! Better out than in though...."

The Twilight Sad
Okay so it's an old song, but it's been remixed by Errors and it sounds fucking amazing. it's on their new EP due out in July. Grab yourself a copy of ‘Reflection Of The Television (Errors Remix)’ over that the fabulous Line Of Best Fit.

John Zainea and the Mania

Slow Animal
I think I missed out my hipster freebie last week, shame one me. This week I'm back on the track with New Jersey duo, Slow Animal. Their eponymous EP is up for free download on their Bandcamp page. It was Pitchfork that tipped them, hipster-as-fucktastic.

Hot Hot Heat

I seem to recall posting a freebie from the Canadian indie popsters a while back, I don't think this is the same song, or at leats I hope it's not. Anyhow, if you head over to RDCRD LBL then you download yourself a copy of their song 'Zero Results' for zero pennies.

Bright Eyes & Neva Dinova
Back in 2004 this pairing released an EP called 'One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels', it's kid of like Two Girls, One Cup, but for indie kids. Or perhaps not, actually I am sorry mentioning that, kids don't go googling it. Promise me you won't, you'l only live to regret it. Anyway, where was I, aye that's it freebies, Saddle Creek have posted two MP3's to promote it's re-issue.

Shark?
They sound a bit like a lo-fi version of the Strokes, they have just posted their new album 'School Night' for free download on their Bandcamp page. Cracker it is too, get tucked in.

Family Cactus

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin
How he does it I'll never know, but every week the doc pulls a wee corker out of the bag. This week it's the fabulously named Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, I haven't listened to these guys in years. They were actually one of the first bands I go into through blogs. I think it was through the You Ain't No Picasso blog (check it if you haven't read it before). Shit, done it again, it's all me, me, me. There is a free download of the first single from their
upcoming album, 'Let It Sway', up for grabs. Just clicka the linka.

The Morgue Party Candidate
I'm still in two mind as to whether this is one of the best or worst names for a band that I have heard in ages, but the one thing is for sure their EP 'Good Morning, Good Night' is pretty damn good, and it's available for free here . If you like what you hear and you are going to the Define Pop Festival at the Flying Duck tomorrow (the 14th of Nov) then you might wanna make sure that you're there for say about seven, as they're on at ten past.

Euros Childs

If you were at the Edinburgh leg of the Music Like a Vitamin show in Edinburgh last month then you might well have caught Euros Childs set with Norman Blake. If you liked what you heard that night then you might be pleased to know that if you add yourself to his mailing list, then he’ll let you download his new album ‘Son of Euro Child’ for free, go get it here.

17 Seconds
Over at 17 Seconds, Ed is very kindly giving away some free samplers from some of his roster, including their latest signing The Wildhouse, plus stuff from Chris Bradley and X-Lion Tamer.

The Go Away Birds
I posted their Marc Riley session a while back, and rather good it was too, if you missed it then you might be interested to know that The Go Away Birds are made up of Catherine Ireton from God Help the Girl and Michael John McCarthy from Zoe Van Goey
They're giving away their new EP 'Heart Thump, Heart Thump' for free here.
Thanks go out to Jim from Aye Tunes for the heads up on this one.

God Help the Girl
While we're at it, you can also download 'Stills' the title track of their recent 5 track EP, and all they ask is for you to sign up to their mailing list, which you can do here

Hot Hot Heat
It's been a couple of years since there's been anything heard from these Canadians, if you didn't give up on them after 'Bandages' then you might be interested to know that they're giving away two free tracks from their forthcoming album. All you've gotta do is follow the link.
