The Son(s)
It's been a few months since I last mentioned anything about The Son(s), that's not to say that they've not been busy. They're currently working on a new EP which is due out later in the year (from the demo's that I've heard it sounds very promising). They've just released their new single 'Slow & Easy', which is made up of three songs, two of which are new and the other being Dogs, Boys & Men, which now has a cracking wee video to go with it. It's an animated wee number that's very Captain Pugwash-esq, I think it looks great, then again I am ever so slightly biased.

Kowalskiy
My blogger friend Kowalskiy has just release his 14th free EP, yet again he's got some great wee tunes up for grabs. This month there are free tunes from Black International, Negotiations, Aerials Up, Edinburgh School For The Deaf and The Ramisco Maki Maki Rocking Horse, now that's what I call a line up. You can find out more information and download links on his blog which you will find here.

freckle tan
If you were listening to Vic Galloway's Radio Scotland show on Monday you might have heard one of freckle tan's songs getting a wee bit of airplay. The side project of one of the Copy Haho boys is a bit different to the day job, as this is an electronic project. I still haven't fully made my mind up about Copy Haho, but I really like this free single that you can download for free from his Bandcamp page.

Sojourner
A few weeks back I sat in for a recording of the Glasgow Podcart in which Pensioner were the special guests, one of the tracks that they chose was by an Edinburgh band called Sojourner. Admittedly I'd never heard of them prior to that day, but I mist admit I was really impressed, so when I got home I got googling and found that they had a whole load of free stuff up for grabs on their Bandcamp. Fans of Wild Oldham and early Bon Iver, should lap this up.

As In Bear
For those of you who like your music a little bit louder, Ayrshire outfit As In Bear might be worth checking out. The band are starting to stir up a wee bit of a buzz, so if you fancy checking out what the fuss is all about you can download one of their songs for free on Soundcloud.

Euros Child
The Welsh singer-songwriter has made his new EP, Beef Bridge, available to download for free on his homepage.

White Heath
The Edinburgh based 6-piece have made two new tracks from their debut album 'Take No Thought For Tomorrow' free to download on Soundcloud.

Laurence and the SlabBoys
The former Fresh Meat starlets have been testing out their new drum machine and have made the song they crafted free to download on SoundCloud.

Okkervil River
Stereogum have another free MP3 from the 'I Am Very Far' LP, download new song "Your Past Life As A Blast" here.

Friday Freebies

The Last Battle
It's been quite a year for the Edinburgh folk act. Having garnered a bit of a buzz about them at the start of the year, they went on to sign to Scottish blogger 17 Seconds label and released one of the most critically acclaimed albums to have come out of this wee nation in 2010. To round the year off the band are setting off an a tour of the country (weather permitting/sadly they couldn't make it through to Glasgow). To celebrate their adventures the band have very kindly posted up their new single 'Natures Glorious Rage' up for you to download for free. Get stuck in boys and girls, this is awesome stuff.

White Heath
This year, White Heath are the latest band to be taken under the wing of college run label, Electric Honey. With an album due out in 2011, the band have given up a wee taster of what you can expect by posting up their track 'CG' to download for free on their Bandcamp.

Laeto
This week saw a surprise return from Dundee outfit Laeto, who have posted up their third album 'III' for free on their Bandcamp. To say that this caused a bit of a stir on the Scottish scene would be playing down somewhat, with luminaries such as Vic Galloway, The Skinny and Glasgow Podcart (who 'spaffed') all heralding their return. If you want to find out what all the fuss is about you can download the album here.

Shambles Miller
The former Fresh Meat troubadour, Shambles Miller has taken it upon himself to write a song that's only 47 seconds long, amusingly title 'The Shortest Song I've Ever Written Is The One With The Longest Title '. You can download yourself a copy here.

Euros Child
The former Gorky's Zygotic Myncinew frontman has just made his new album, Face Dripping, available to download for free on his website. Cracking stuff.

It's All Happening
Last Saturday I was out seeing Randolph's Leap supporting the Concretes, an awesome time was had and not just because I pinched most of their rider. Before the night descended into a drunken blur, Vicki from the Leap told me about a wee side project that she had been working on with her friend Alex. Being the pessimistic fucker that I am, I didn't think too much of it. That was of course until I actually heard the song that they had recorded. To say I was impressed would be a massive understatement. If you fancy hearing whether I am full of shit or not, then you can download their one and only track 'I am a golden god' for free here.

Ghost Pants
He may well be sunning it up on the other side of the pond in LA recording the new Dananana' album. But my favourite plant pot wearing drummer Paul Carling has found time to record another couple of songs for his side project, Ghost Pants. You can download it for nowt here. Also look out for a wee recording of the whole band playing live at the first ever Peenko Tea Party some time early in the new year. From what I have heard of the early recordings, it's going to be epic.

S-Type
Experimental label, Phuture Labs have just put our their third with Glasgow producer S-Type.
"It's kinda hard to describe but has a hint of Hudson Mohawke in the mix alongside some classic P-Funk stylings and lovely melodies a-go-go. 2010 electronica with huge hip hop, funk and grime influences". If that sound like it would be your cup of tea, then you can download it for free here.

Low
Right now, Low are sharing a new live EP, streaming below, or available for download it in exchange for an e-mail. Live at Eindhoven was recorded at St. Catherina Church in the Netherlands city on January 22, 2009. The band was joined by a full choir for the performance - Pitchfork

Randolph's Leap
In case some of you missed my post a couple of weeks back, myself and Halina from the Glasgow Podcart have decided to team up together to set up our own we label, Olive Grove Records. Our first release is going to be with the fabulous Randolph's Leap, who's EP 'Battelships & Kettle Chips' comes out a week on Monday (15th). As a wee taster of what you can expect, the band have posted all of their back catalogue to date up for free download on their Bandcamp page. You can also stream the EP in the toolbar on the right hand side of the screen, I hope you you like it as much as we do.

Norman Blake & Euros Childs
These guys have been playing together for what feels like an age, well now they have an EP up for grabs and yep you guess it, it's free. Get your grubby mitts on it here.

Decemberists
Many indie kids were creaming their pants over this freebie earlier in the week, personally I don't get what the fuss is all about, but that's just me. All you need to know is that if you head over to their homepage, you can download new track "Down by the Water"

Fang Islands
Another band that I think are slightly over hyped would Fang Islands, having been a bit of a buzz band a few months back I picked up their debut album, cannae mind what it was called. All I can say is that it didn't do much to get me excited, god I am sounding like such a miserable twat today. Anyway, here's what you need to know...Stereogum has a free download of a new track featuring the Andrew WK, get your mitts on 'Patterns on Wall' here.

FOUND
This week those lovely FOUND boys are giving away a free download of a Ben Butler Edit of the awesome 'Let Fidelity Break', get downloading it here.

Cold War Kids
There first album was rather good wasn't it. Their second didn't quite click with em, in fact I don't think it clicked with a lot of folk. Their appearance at last years Stag & Dagger festival confirmed this for me, as after the Twilight Sad played to a packed out ABC, around 4/5 of the crowd buggered off elsewhere. Anyway, they're back! Will the new stuff redeem them to their former glories or are well too fickle these days to care. Make your own mind up by downloading 'Louder Than Ever'.

Beerjacket
After making a delayed triumphant return to the live scene, Scottish alt-folkie, Peter Kelly continues to treat us kids. This time he's posted up new track 'Crooked Finger' to download for free on his Bandcamp.

CSS
Now there's a name I never we'd see again, whether we will still remains a mystery to me. They have posted up their first two EP's for free download. Personally I'd love to see them make a come back as they're one of the most fun live bands I've ever seen.

Dry The River
This freebie came courtesy of one of my forthcoming Scots Way-Hay interviewees, for now they shall remain nameless, but trust me they're good. Anyway back to Dry The River, they're a cracking wee folk outfit and they have a free EP up for grabs here.

We, the Plural
One of the biggest problems that I have with freebies these days is that I try and draft the post up the night before I actually post them up. This tends to involve me making lots of bookmarks or 'favouriting' tweets. Which is all well and good, but it does mean that I quite often find myself thinking where the hell did I find this. We' The Plural would be one such band. So whoever it was that tweeted/posted about them, cheers! They're from Edinburgh and they have an EP called Music Loves You Too up for free, it's rather good too.

Bill Coleman
This freebie comes courtesy of our irish blogger mate, Nialler9 (cracking blog - check it out kids). It comes with his seal of approval which is good enough for me, i.e. it's still on my 'to-do' list. You can download his album for free here.

Dinosaur Bones
Now for some Canadian music! Kicking us off I have Toronto outfit, Dinosaur Bones, who have just released a new EP. If you click here you can download the lead track 'Birthright'.

Cowlick
My second Canadian freebie comes courtesy of an outfit by the name of Cowlick, who hail from Hamilton (this confused the fuck out of me). Dylan from the band got in touch with me earlier in the week to suggest that I check out his outfit. This was the sales pitch that sold it to me "I was in a band called By Divine Right (yes, I'm yet starting another off shoot band), which as you may know, spun off into some well-known artists (Broken Social Scene, Holy Fuck, Feist)". If you click this link you'll find a number of free tracks up for grabs.

Bad Veins
Frabbits keep raving about this lot, even with the offer of free tunes I still haven't gotten round to listening to them. You can make your own mind up by downloading their track Benefits of Lying by clicking da link.

City Slang
Here's a cracking wee sampler for you all, it features tracks from artists such as Junip, Broken Social Scene and Lambchop, and it's free to download from...er Amazon in Germany....

Kelp Records
Here's another wee sampler for you, featuring tracks form Jim Bryson, The Acorn, HILOTRONS and Andrew Vincent, download it here.

The Morgue Party Candidate
I'm still in two mind as to whether this is one of the best or worst names for a band that I have heard in ages, but the one thing is for sure their EP 'Good Morning, Good Night' is pretty damn good, and it's available for free here . If you like what you hear and you are going to the Define Pop Festival at the Flying Duck tomorrow (the 14th of Nov) then you might wanna make sure that you're there for say about seven, as they're on at ten past.

Euros Childs

If you were at the Edinburgh leg of the Music Like a Vitamin show in Edinburgh last month then you might well have caught Euros Childs set with Norman Blake. If you liked what you heard that night then you might be pleased to know that if you add yourself to his mailing list, then he’ll let you download his new album ‘Son of Euro Child’ for free, go get it here.

They're giving away their new EP 'Heart Thump, Heart Thump' for free here.
Thanks go out to Jim from Aye Tunes for the heads up on this one.

God Help the Girl

Hot Hot Heat
