I have buggered off to Belladrum, so here's some news...

Anyone who was unfortunate enough to listen to my stint on Fresh Air last summer might remember I managed to seriously balls up my plug for their charity download album. I vaguely recall comparing folk who downloaded a charity for free as being the equivalent of kicking a blind death and dumb kid, or something along those lines. Whatever I said it caused a bit of bother, not that I was all that fussed. This year I am going to do my best to avoid fucking up, so I'll just let you know that Fresh Air have compiled another charity album featuring tracks from bands such as Edinburgh School For The Deaf, The Scottish Enlightenment and French Wives. It's a minimum £2 purchase, which is a cracking deal for some ace tunes, plus you get to do your bit for charity.

The Mouse That Ate The Cat, a nw Glasgow based electro-pop duo made up of Brian Henderson (lead singer of The Dykeenies) and Colin Keenan (ex-Drive-By Argument) released their debut single 'Falling Down' this week. It's only £1 to buy which includes the single, q video and a B-side

Our friends at Pelmet Nites have decided to do something a wee bit different with their next night, as they're putting on what I think must be their first ever hip hop night featuring Kobi Onyame and Stanley Odd. Having caught Kobi when I was at Wickerman a few weeks I can see why they've snapped him up for a gig. Also, I have been listening to Stanley Odd's mini album a fair wee bit recently. Me liking hip-hop, who'd have thunk it. You can buy tickets for the gig here

If you're still at a loose end for something to do this evening then you might want to head along to see the Red Show at Maggie Mays in Glasgow where they are celebrating the release of their new EP, Hard To Shake It Hard To Love.

Loch Awe - Fresh Air Session

"While most Scottish bands can be picked out from the 'happy tunes, miserable lyrics' school of thought, Loch Awe have a more traditional Scottish sound. The band popped into Fresh Air to play us a few tracks from their debut album 'Artificial Life From A Digital Sea' which is available free at their bandcamp and a couple of brand new tracks. Despite having only played one gig since forming in the summer, based on the strength of the album they're definitely a band to watch out for!"

The Last Battle - Fresh Air Session

Week 2 of the Fresh Air Sessions and here's our Brian to tell us all about it.....

"After hearing their debut album Heart of the Land, Soul of the Sea I badgered The Last Battle to come in to do a session at fresh air until they eventually agreed. Worried they'd turn up as a six or seven piece and cause me problems fitting them all in the same room I was somewhat relieved when singer/guitarist Scott Longmuir and backing singer Arwen Duncan turned up to the studio to play some songs. They played three stripped back songs from the album including 'Nature's Glorious Rage' which was released as a free single alongside new song '243' and Christmas track 'Once Upon A Christmas Tree' to coincide with the start of their UK tour. Found in Sound's top 10 Scottish albums of 2010 will be aired on Sunday from 2 til 3 on FreshAir.org.uk and you can can find all of this semester's shows at found-in-sound.blogspot.com"

Over the Wall - Fresh Air Session (13/11/10)

I must admit that it at the moment I am finding it a bit tricky to come up with a post for every day of the week. This is mainly because of the lack of radio sessions available for me to rip, I am getting quite picky in my old age. Thankfully though help is it at hand, thanks to a lovely chap by the name of Brian Pokora, who is very kindly going to be letting me post an array of sessions that he recorded for his show on Fresh Air. Kicking it all off we have the Over the Wall boys, but before we go on with the tunes here's Brian to tell you a bit more about the show, this session and how to get in touch with the show....



"This semester has seen the start of a new music show on fresh air. Myself and Charlotte who run Found In Sound on freshair.org.uk have been focussed on playing the best new music in Scotland and bringing our listeners sessions from some of the best bands around. Having these great bands in to play some stripped back sessions has resulted in a new weekly segment here on Peenko where we'll be posting the latest tracks from the fresh air studio. We've got even excellent bands coming up on the show over the next few months so you can check us out here, on our own blog Found In Sound or live on freshair.org.uk every Sunday 2 til 3 during term. Our first session comes from Over The Wall, the Glasgow duo have just released their debut album 'Treacherous' and I must say it is very good! We had a great time recording the session with the guys and along with songs from the new album we had a few exclusives. These were a special a cappella version of the track 'A History of British Welfarism 1945-1984' and 'Coming Home' which as far as I can tell, we have the first recording of. Enjoy!"

The last in my run of shows on Fresh Air and what a way to go out, once again I had David from Kid Canaveral in to talk mince with me and basically try and keep me in check. I don't think he quite managed it, although he did make me apologise for my comments about folk who downloaded a charity album for free. Plus on top of all of that we had I Build Collapsible Mountains and Come On Gang! in to play some songs and have a bit of a blether.
Hopefully there will be more shows in the future, watch this space.....

This was the second show that I did for Fresh Air, joining me that week I had Boab from Campfires in Winter in to co-host/try and keep me in check. Not sure if he fully managed it or not though! On the plus side we did get to play loads of great music, including two exclusives (at that time) from Come On Gang! and the mysterious Let's Talk About Trees. The Peenko Show - Fresh Air Sessions

As some of you were aware I did a stint on Edinburgh student radio station, Fresh Air, for three weeks during the festival. I am pretty sure that any of you that heard the show will agree, a future career at Radio One isn't very likely. That being said I did get to play a lot of great music, hopefully I managed to introduce some new music to some of you. I have already posted the first show that I did, I am still waiting to receive copies of the 2nd and 3rd shows (Hitch, if you're reading this, could you please send me a copy...pretty please).
As well as getting to play songs and talk mince, I was also lucky enough to get Edinburgh artists I Build Collapsible Mountains and Come On Gang! in to play a song for me. It was honestly a privilege and an honour to have them come in and do this for me.
I Build Collapsible Mountains, aka singer songwriter, Luke Joyce played the song 'Rails', taken from his forthcoming mini album, 'A Month Of Lost Memories'. While Come On Gang serenaded us with their forthcoming single 'Fortune Favours The Brave'. The recording is a bit crackly, but it still sounds amazing. Look out for the official release next Friday.

In case you missed all the fun and games of my first venture into radio broadcasting, then here it is in all of it's rambling glory. Fresh Air

Radio Ga Ga

Good evening boys n girls, this is just a quick reminder to tune into Fresh Air tonight at 7pm for my first ever radio show. It could be a complete disaster or a lot fun, or possibly even both, either way I'm cacking myself about it. Joining me tonight I have my own very 'special guest' David from Kid Canaveral, so at least there will be one sensible person in the room. I might ask him some music related questions, I might not.
