Would you care to introduce yourself?
Blinding Sunlight are Paul Doucet and Paul Johnston. We are based in Glasgow.
How would you describe the music you make?
We make psychedelic music. As we use analogue and digital instruments, and even occasionally acoustic instruments, the complexion of the music often differs from song to song, but the overall impression is consistently psychedelic. We enjoy drones and repetition.
How did you start out making music?
Paul Doucet: I bought a toy sampler when I was fourteen, and started to write songs. This taught me that you didn't have to be a musician to make music. I've been writing songs ever since.
Paul Johnston: We met at Pure (JD Twitch's club in Edinburgh) and immediately hit it off. We discussed making music together, but didn't get round to it until a few years ago.
What process goes into the way you write songs?
There is no set process. Sometimes one of us will come up with a melody. Sometimes it is a riff. More often it is a sound that one of us has created that we feel is unique and captures the feeling of what we are trying to achieve. We are both interested in astronomy and it is quite incredible the inspiration one can find by looking at the night sky. The opening track on our album 'Vyudh' is ostensibly about the constellation of Orion.
What can people expect from your live shows?
Many of the songs from our album but re-contextualised and presented in a different fashion, with a strong visual element. We don't want to regurgitate the songs as they appear on the album. To do this would mean that people would essentially be watching two men standing behind banks of machinery. At the moment we are limited by both budget and personnel (there are only two of us) but we are working towards something that will hopefully excite people.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in 2011?
We have recently been remixed by GK Machine and have collaborated with local film-makers Mark Davitt and Shug Nicholson. We really enjoy collaboration and have learned a lot from working with artists from other disciplines. Hopefully, 2001 will see us working with an even more diverse group.
