Friday Freebies
The Pictish Trail
A normal Thursday night for me will be spent sitting in front of my laptop cobbling together that weeks Friday Freebies, so quite often I find myself getting in a bit of a spin when I have plans for that night. Tonight is one of the those nights, as I am off to the CCA to catch The Pictish Trail and Kid Canaveral. Which in a roundabout way brings me to my first freebie which comes from the aforementioned Pictish Trail who is offering a free download of a remix of his new song 'Of Course You Exist' from FOUND, which you can download from SoundCloud

Seams
Having recently recorded a session for Radio One, it's safe to say that Dundee outfit Seams, are being touted as one of the most exciting unsigned bands out there at the moment. You can make your own mind up as to whether the hype is justified or not by downloading their song 'Gorilla' for free from their SoundCloud page.

Fatherson
Another band who are garnering a lot of support from Radio One are Scottish three piece, Fatherson. Having recently had their song "Gone Fission" aired on BBC Radio 1's Introducing Playlist, the band decided to celebrate their success by giving the song away as a free download on their Bandcamp page.
q without u
Glasgow four piece, q without u have just posted up their second album 'do no harm' as a free download on their Bandcamp page. I have only just had the one listen through, but I am definitely digging this, if you're old enough to remeber the band Seafood, then I guess that's the closest comparison that I could compare this lot to. As always, you don't have to listen to any of the rubbsh that I spout, all that you really need to know is that this is good and it's free to download from their Bandcamp page.
Collar Up
Edinburgh dream-pop trio from, Collar Up released their new single, The Fear of Love through Permwhale Recordings on the 23rd of April. It's catchy wee bugger and it's free to download here.
Milk Maid
Last years debut album from, Yucca, was a masterclass in fuzzy lo-fi excellence from Manchester's finest, Milk Maid. My expectations for their forthcoming album, 'Mostly No', is already pretty high. If 'Do Right' is anything to go by, then it looks like FatCat's rich vein of form is set to continue.

Urvanovic
If you haven't already checked out the video for Edinburgh outfit, Urvanovic's forthcoming single 'Bubblewrap', then I'd suggest you get that rectified asap. If you liked what you heard then you can download a fair few demo tracks for free over on their SoundCloud page. Their debut single officially comes out on the16th of June on Survivalist records.

Drunk Mule
It wouldn't be a proper Friday Freebies post if I didn't have something from the Drunk Mule boys, so to round up this weeks FFs here's their new tune Pterodactyl which is for grabs from their Bandcamp page.

Friday Freebies
Gargleblast Records
Back at Christmas time those nice folk over at Gargleblast Records got right into the festive spirit by giving away a series of freebies, now they've decided to do it all again under the guise of Springfest. So far they've posted up three free downloads, 'There's a Phantom Hiding in My Loft' by Martin John Henry, 'Black Albino' by Desert Hearts and 'It Helps to See You Hurt' (live) by De Rosa.
Seams
The award for this weeks hottest new Scottish band goes to Seams, or at least that's what the word on the street/Internet appears to be. The Dundee five piece seemed to have gotten a lot of people very excited with their recent appearance at King Tut's, Muslim the producer on Ally McCrae's Radio One show can't stop raving about them. For me the jury is still out, from what I have heard they've got some pretty catchy pop tunes, whether they justify all of the hype I am not sure. You can make your own mind up by grabbing a couple of free downloads from their SoundCloud page.

Father Figure Records Compilation
As soon as I think I've finished writing these Freebie posts I tend to find someone posts up another cracking free download just as I have gone to bed. Thankfully though in the nick of time, one last Facebook check has alerted me to a cracking free download from Father Figure Records, which features none other than those fabulous Trapped In Kansas boys, plus some free tunes from the likes of Three Trapped Tigers and Tall Ships.
Penfold
Naming yourself after Danger Mouse's bespectacled hamster sidekick automatically gets you bonus points in my eyes. As does posting stuff up for free download, which is exactly what Livingtson four piece, Pendfold have just done with their new self titled single which you can find on their Bandcamp page.
HelloVideo
Dundee trio, HelloVideo have just posted up their new EP 'Reset' for free download on their Bandcamp page. The band remind me of a more poppy version of Rival Schools, so if that sounds like it might be your cup of tea then check 'em out. The three piece will also be playing at the innaugural Brew At The Bog festival on the 5th of May in Inverness.
Mt. Judge
This freebie tip came courtesy of a Happy Particles post on Facebook, if you are fan of ambient or drone music, then Glasgow outfit Mt. Judge might just be for you. Their new EP, Not Always is free to download on Bandcamp, plus if you like what you hear then for juts £2 you can buy a copy on cassette.
Without Aeroplanes
If you're a connoseur of post rock, then you might want to check out Glasgow instrumental outfit, Without Aeroplanes. Fresh from recording their new EP at Lofi Studios, the 5 piece have posted up their new EP 'Tell Me Tales of Canada' on their Bandcamp page on a pay what you want basis.

Friday Freebies

Super Adventure Club
As the perjury trial of Tommy and Gail Sheridan entered its second week at the High Court in Glasgow, the good folk at Armellodie had a cracking wee idea. They've decided that it might be fun to soundtrack the whole affair and celebrate the release of Super Adventure Club’s ‘Chalk Horror’ (out on Monday) by giving away a free download of their track ‘Tommy Sheridan’.
Mitchell Museum
Those fabulous 'Museum kids new single 'Tiger Heart Beat' is out this week, if you haven't already seen it make sure you check out the video that goes with it. It's got some serious robot abuse going on! To celebrate it's release they're giving away some remixes of the single, ch-ch-check it.
Lenzie Moss
Featuring Finlay MacDonald of Teenage Fanclub fame, Lenzie Moss are already starting to get a bit of a buzz about them. Mainly on the Fannies message board I might add, you can check them out by downloading a few free tracks from their Bandcamp.
Hey Marseilles
At the start of this week I was lucky enough to have been invited along to record my first proper appearance on the infamous Glasgow Podcart alongside my new partner in crime Halina (Olive Grove) and Luke (I Build Collapsible Mountains). T'was a cracking evening, although I think I'd prefer it if my wife/folks/daughter never heard it! Anyway, while I was there I got introduced to a number of cracking new bands. The stand out being Seattle band, Hey Marseilles, so much so that the first I did when I got home was try and find out a bit more. Here's the two things you need to know to get you started, they have an amazing video and they also have put their song 'Rio' up for free download. Get stuck in as this is cracking stuff.
Shutter
If you missed their session for Vic G a month or so back it's really worth hunting down (clue it's on this site somewhere). I am not normally a big fan of post-rock, but they really pricked my ears up when I heard it. Their album 'Pillars' is really worth hunting down, it certainly does it for me. If you need some convincing then you can start by downloading their track 'Pillars of Creation' for free here.
Young Fathers
Scottish hip hop isn't something that I feature all that often on Peenko, that's mainly cause I know feck all about it. The only artists that I have heard of are Edinburgh's very own Young Fathers. That's mainly through hearing them on Vic's Radio One show, bloody good they are too. You can get yourself some free tunes by heading to their homepage.
Bear Driver
You might remember I did a wee Introducing piece on this lot a few months back, well they're very kindly gotten in touch to let me know that they've posted up new track 'Golden Touch' for free download on their Soundcloud page.
The Rest
I do like it when folk get in touch to tip me off about freebies (hint fucking hint), I especially like it when a band I already like email me to let me know about one of their freebies. As well as Bear Driver getting in touch, I also go a nice email from Canadian outfit, The Rest. So what's so special about that you might wonder, well their album 'Everyone All At Once' was a personal favourite last year. So to find out they have more material coming out soon and that they were giving away new track 'John Huston' for free, made for a pretty exciting email. Get downloading here.
Austin City Limits Festival
There are a whole host of free MP3s up for grabs at Spinner Music, including tracks from Band of Horses, The National, The XX and Beach House among others.
FOUND
Last week in the second of their FOUND Free Fri giveaways, the band gave away their track 'String Theory'. What this weeks freebie will be I couldn't tell you, all you need to know is that it will be good, oh so very good.
The Duke Spirit
The band are about to return with their new EP 'Kusama', you can get 'Everybody's Under Your Spell' from it for free here.

The date of the New York music convention is fast approaching, that won't be of much use to many of you, or so you may have thought. You can download a whole load of free MP3's from some of the artists playing at it, including Asobi Seksu, Franz Nicolay and Kevin Devine.
Slow Animal
This freebie comes courtesy of a tweet from Paul Carlin on twitter, so if it's shite blame him, ie I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. You can download their demo for free here.
