Fresh Meat Monday - Vasa

Would you care to introduce yourself?

I'm Scott and I play guitar in Vasa, alongside Blaine (guitar), John (bass) and Alex (drums)

How would you describe the music you make?

Post rock, with a bit of math rock thrown in.

How did you start out making music?

Blaine and John became friends through uni and started writing songs together a couple of years ago. Blaine then asked me to join the band as we've been friends since high school and had been talking about starting a band for years but never got round to it. Then after a few months of writing/practicing with a pre-recorded backing track we met Alex who had (slightly) better chat than the backing track, so we asked him to join the band.

What process goes into the way you write songs?

Usually Blaine comes up with either an idea for a song, or pretty much a whole song and records a demo at home, then sends it to the rest of us and then we start practicing it until it's ready to play live.

What can people expect from your live shows?

We try and put as much energy as possible into our shows, which we feel is lacking from a lot of post-rock. You can also expect a lot of tap-dancing on pedal boards, weird noises and shite patter.

What are you all listening to at the moment?

John: Sectioned, Dodecahedron, Tera Melos, Adebisi Shank Alex: Axis Of Blaine: Sigur Ros, And So I Watch You From Afar, Alarm Bells, Three Trapped Tigers Scott: Foals, Tall Ships, The Bronze Medal, Frightened Rabbit, Japandroids  Collectively, we're all obsessed with the new Darien Venture EP, which they released last week, math pop perfection.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in the future?

We're half way towards writing a new EP at the moment, which we're hoping to record at some point this year if we can find the time. There's also a tour of England on the cards in the summer and we'll hopefully be touring Scotland again this year.
