Fresh Meat Monday - Smackvan

Would you care to introduce yourself?

Smackvan... Glasgow band of many years longstanding...

How would you describe the music you make?

Slowly evolving.. deliberate... rock music of sorts...

How did you start out making music?

We started in bedrooms over 20 years ago ... we've graduated to living rooms... with a few detours...

What process goes into the way you write songs?

The process has changed through the years but as we are now, either Gerry or Owen bring some music to the practice and we build it up or knock it down from there... like most bands there's a lot of shaping of the music at this stage but we understand each other well and work fairly intuitively...

What can people expect from your live shows?

They can expect to see 3 people clumsily trying their best to communicate something... hopefully something worth hearing...

What are you all listening to at the moment?

Listening to Edinburgh band ARCS a fair bit... everyone should YouTube 'Old Bruises' by Arcs... fantastic stuff... a fair bit of electronic and improvised music... I could be here some time...

What can we expect to see/hear from you in the future?

We have an album out currently called 'Sound in Space' you can by from shops/ download or through us... Owen the guitarist has a solo album out called 'Time' which is fantastic... and we have new material recorded to be released before the end of this year... we are playing 2 all too rare gigs in Henrys Cellar Bar in Edinburgh on 16.05.12 as part of a Song by Toad night and the 3rd June at the Old Hairdressers in Glasgow as part of the Slow Club...
