Weekly Roundup (17/10/10)

Monday - Loch Awe are a band that caught me by surprise back in August with the release of their free download album, ''Artificial Life From a Digital Sea'. I was chuffed to have them taking on some Fresh Meat action to kick off what was a very special week on Peenko.
Tuesday - Admiral Fallow really are are rather good aren't they?! having already recorded arguably the greatest session of the year on the Vic Galloway show. The band returned to do it all again, this time on Vic's Radio Scotland show to prove that the last session was no one off as they charmed us with three acoustic tracks. Including a cover of an Associates song, magical stuff. Plus there was also a wee Frightened Rabbit recording from their session that they did for KEXP. I am hoping to record a few more sessions this week if I get the chance. Plus in what was supposed to be the last of my DIY label features, the legendary RM 'Hubby' Hubbert told us all about his label Ubisano. A truly inspirational label that I have a lot to learn from.
Also, as I mentioned above I have decided that it would be fun to continue to feature Scottish labels as there is so much going on out there that it would stupid not to share it with you all. Now all I need to do is start emailing some of these labels to see if they're up for it.
Wednesday - this was a rather special milestone for me as the blog celebrated it's second birthday. To commemorate the occasion I launched Peenko Records, plus I also let you know a bit more about Olive Grove Records, another wee project that I am involved in. As part of the day of celebrations, I featured my first artist, I Build Collapsible Mountains as the 37th entry into the Scots Way-Hay club.
Thursday - Boab made a welcome re-appearance with his review of I Build Collapsible Mountains - A Month Of Lost Memories
Friday - it was a busy wee week for our Boab, as he also posted a wee interview that he did with the Twilight Sad while he was down in London. It was highly amusing. Read it.
I also had possibly the greatest Friday Freebies ever, no shit, go check it out.
Saturday - recorded especially for this blog, I had the first artist to sign to Peenko Records, to also record a cover version especially for this feature. So here's I Build Collapsible Mountains covering Sebadoh in We've Got It Covered. Niiiiice!


News, gigs and any other gubbins.....

First things first, I did promise that I had a few more special things that I was going to announce, well here's one of them. Starting tomorrow we will have the first ever 'Peenko Sessions' post, featuring a live acoustic recording from Kid Canaveral.
The on Tuesday there will be details on how you can come along to the next 'Peenko session' with which is being held in a very special intimate venue in Glasgow, plus this time we have two amazing bands lined up to entertain you all. One of whom will be playing their first ever gig, but for now you're just going to have to wait to find out what we've got in store for you all.

If you're looking for a gig to go to tonight, then look no further. Yes, I know that I have been going on about this gig for a while now, but I am seriously really excited about it. Three of my favourite artsist, The Unwinding Hours, The Twilight Sad and RM Hubbert, now that's a mouth watering line up if ever I saw one. A few special collaborations have been promised, plus it's in the upstairs hall of Oran Mor, a truly stunning venue. I know it's a Sunday night, but this really is one gig you don't want to miss.

On Friday night, former Scots Way-Hay punk starlets, Miss the Occupier are playing a free gig at The Wise Monkey, on Great Western Road in Glasgow. The evening kicks off at nine, you can find further details about it here.

Lastly, next Saturday, former Fresh Meat'ers, Skies Fell play the Arches in Glasgow. This is a free gig, but you'll have to register in advance to get yourself on the guest list.
