Weekly Round Up (01/08/10)

Monday - Mammoeth's cracking debut album came out on Monday, they also took some time out to take part in some Fresh Meat action.
Tuesday - I couldn't find any decent sessions to share, thankfully there was an exciting wee gig announcement about a special one off Second Hand Marching Band gig (if you missed it, I'm afraid you were too late as it was on Thursday)
Wednesday - the most brutal live band in Scotland, Bronto Skylift became the 26th entry in the Scots Way-Hay club
Thursday - a recording of Haight Ashbury's session for the Vicmeister
Friday - once again we had a shed load of freebies to share with you all
Saturday - Belle and Sebastian's cover of the Beatles 'Here Comes The Sun'

News, gigs and any other gubbins......

If you are free this afternoon and you're looking for something entertaining to fill your Sunday with, then get yourself along to Creation Studios, 16 Trongate, Glasgow as from 4-6pm, they are hosting the fourth Words Per Minute. Featuring performances from Duncan Mclean, Suhayl Saadi, Allan Wilson, Doug Johnstone, Kirstin Innes and Anneliese Mackintosh. Plus there is the added bonus of a Miaoux Miaoux DJ set between 6-7pm. It's only £3 on the door and from all accounts is an excellent way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

On Thursday night (5th) Dananananaykroyd are playing a special one off show at Nice n Sleazy's in Glasgow. There are no advance tickets, so make sure you get yourself down nice and early, it'll set you back the very reasonable sum of £6 and if past shows are anything to go by this should a be a whole lot of fun! Plus the legend that is RM Hubbert is supporting, that's one odd line up, I'd love to see the kids make of hubby's opening set.

Details of this years 'Music Like a Vitamin' show and an album got announced this week. On the 1st of October, Rod Jones and Emma Pollock play at the Picture House in Edinburgh, with some very special guests still to be announced. Plus for the first time, the Idlewild guitarist has managed to get together an amazing collection of musicians come in and record an album full of new material, featuring an array of talent including James Graham (Twilight Sad), Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit), Jill O’Sullivan (Sparrow and the Workshop), Karine Polwart Jenny Reeve, Alasdair Roberts and James Yorkston. Apparently the album sounds great, I can't wait to hear it. You can buy tickets for the Edinburgh gig here, and further details of Music Like a Vitamin can be found here.

Last but not least, the good folk over at Edinburgh student radio station Fresh Air, have been daft enough to give me my own radio show this August. On Wednesday at 7pm I will be kicking off a three week run of presenting my own show, for a an hour and a half I am getting free reign to play whatever I want. It should be a lot of fun, how could I not resist the opportunity to inflict my tastes on others. There will be a lot of local music getting an airing, plus lots of rambling and hopefully a few special guests to keep me in order. Tune in on Wednesday to hear how it goes.
