It's been a pretty good few weeks in terms of news coming out of the NYC camp, first off they've managed to recruit themselves a shit hot new drummer (the last one ran away to France) and now even more excitingly they've just posted up their top notch new single We Lived Here as a free download. Get stuck in kids, it's a great wee tune.

Poor Things
Having released their debut single 'Innocence/18' through the French Wives imprint label, Red Hat Records back in May. Perthshire three piece, Poor Things have just made their new EP 'R U Sitting Comfortably?' free to download on Bandcamp.

Laki Mera
Glaswegian electronica quartet, Laki Mera have posted up the Mogwai remix of their song 'Crater' for free on their Facebook page.

Edinburgh punk powerpop three-piece Supermarionation have made their new EP 'Amongst the Northern Lochs' free to download here.

Plastic Animals
Having released the excellent A Dark Spring EP back in July, Plastic Animals are now giving away even more free tunes. To celebrate their 5th anniversary since the release of their debut EP, they've made both“The Importance Of Fuzz” and it's follow-up “Forgetting This Is Killing Me” free to download on Bandcamp.

Scottish Fiction

Would you care to introduce yourself?

Hi we are rose parade, my name is Ed, I play piano, Glockenspiel and banjo, Ari sings and plays the guitar/harmonica and Paul plays the Bass/ lead guitar. We formed in 2009 in Ayr when we started jamming together, but recently we have started taking it more seriously and getting out there.


How would you describe the music you make?

We've been described by Jim Gellatly as "country-tinged indie" and by other media as "whimsical pop" We dont tend to focus on a specific genre and dont want to be pigeon holed either, we all have different influences including Folk, Punk, Rock, Country and Clasical. Aris is influenced by "bright eyes", the cure, the pixies, fugazi, the clash and the brit pop 90s scene, Ed is heavily influenced by the Grunge scene and punk bands, Paul is heavily influenced by The Stone Roses, The Verve, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan and many others.


How did you start out making music?

We all started out playing music in different bands and at some point we moved in together or met at college. We had a lot of parties and we ended up playing music together and recording some tunes. In May of 2009 we decided to take things more seriously and start putting music out there and play gigs anywhere we could, since then we have been rehearsing and experimenting with different instruments.


What process goes into the way you write songs?

We don't have a recipe for writing songs, but, usually Ari writes them on his acoustic guitar and then we all chip in when we have a jam of the song. We're not afraid to tell each other what we do or don't like about what each others playing. I think the honesty in this chemistry is something that makes the songs appealing to all of us, and hopefully to an audience. Ari also writes the lyrics, but is not afraid to listen to others creative input. Other times one of us may just play a riff and the others join in and before you know it a song is born.


What can people expect from your live shows?

When people go to gigs they usually hear band after band of loud drums, distorted guitars and some angsty singing. This is unless you go to an acoustic gig where there is a singer/songwriter and a guitar, and I think our band is a nice blend of both of those types of gigs. You can sit and listen without being banged into a mosh pit and enjoy a band type feeling. I think we are often received well because we're not trying to be the loudest band there and have a bit more atmosphere than a solo singer.

Paul: Pearl Jam, Billy Joel, Mumford and Sons, Little Fire, Michael Jackson, Elbow, Coldcut and Muse

Ari: Frightened rabbit, admiral fallow, little fire, trusty and the foe, the cure, jawbreaker, bon iver, slint


What can we expect to see/hear from you in the near future?

We're releasing an EP this December called " Grace" and hopefully that will pick up a few more fans, get us a few more higher profiled gigs and then who knows what will happen?We would really like to tour Scotland and UK so we are looking into organizing a mini tour, also we are releasing our second ep in May and then we want to do an album! All I can say is that if we keep at it we might get close to that dream.
