Ash
Mrs Peenko got to go and see these boys on Tuesday there, apparently it was amazing. I wouldn't know as I was on babysitting duties on my own for the first time. Thankfully we both lived to tell the tale. The band are set to play a big gig down in London Town, to celebrate they're giving away some tracks, one from them and one from each of their support acts, The Crimea and The Lines, get it here.

Telekenisis!
Their self titled debut album was one of my favourite releases of last year, a class find from the now defunct and sadly missed Planet Sound (the music page that was on Teletext). Anyway, the band are due to release their second album early next year, as a taster of what to expect you can download new track 'Car Crash' for free here.

Night Noise Team
The Edinburgh outfits new single, 'Burning' came out on Monday, keeping with the theme of continuing to surprise folk, the band seem to have shed their 'dance pop' sound and taken on a Joy Division-esq sound. It's up for download as one of those 'Name Your Price' deals, which you can download from their bandcamp. To celebrate it's release the band have made their two previous singles 'Menolick' and 'You Won' available to downloaded for free.

Martin John Henry

Our friend Mike up at Manic Pop Thrills celebrated his 500th blog post in style this week with a wee interview with former De Rosa front man, Martin John Henry. It's a cracking a wee read, which should check out (once you've finished on here that is). He also alerted me to a cracking free download of Martin's electro take on his former bands song ‘All Saints Day’, cleverly changed to 'All Saintz Dayz'.

Maxwell Panther
You might remember me posting about Maxwell Panther a while back, he's a Mackem and he's signed to Song By Toad Records. He was all celebrating a special occasion this week, I can't for the life of me remember what it was, birthday? Barmitzva? Whatever it was, he's decided to celebrate in style by putting all of his back catalogue up for free download.

The Rock of Travolta
I hadn't heard of this band in years, I remember hearing a lot about them about 4 or 5 years ago, then nothing. That's possibly because I disappeared up my big Scottish arse. Anyway, they have a free tune up for grabs in exchange for your email address.

The Lost Generation
They kicked this week off as my Fresh Meat victims, if you liked what you heard or you missed the post then you can check them out now by downloading their tune 'Lose Your Love' for nowt here.

Murder Mystery
A very late addition to this weeks freebies comes from New York outfit, Murder Mystery, who have posted up their new single, 'Problems' up for free download. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but they describe it as'Aphex Twin meets Madonna', sounds fucking mental to me.

Wildlife
Here's another band that got in touch to let me know that they have a wee freebie up for grabs, this one comes from Toronto outfit, Wildlife, who have three free songs on their Bandcamp.

Maxwell Panther
You know when radio DJ's act all wanky and refer to someone as a 'friend of the show'. They sounds like cocks don't they? Well I'm going to be a cock (yes, I know what's new - you witty bunch you). Friend of Peenko blog, and also on the Song By Toad label, Maxwell Panther, has a new album out. It's called 'Lovers reBEL' and it's free to download on his Bandcamp page. We like his music, we hop you do too.

Miniature Tigers
For any of you that have been visiting this site for a while now, ie Jim, you might remember I tipped these guys for great things a while back. Their debut album was a fucking belter, sadly not many folk picked up on it, time to get the rectified as they're about to release their second album pretty soon. You can download a free track from it over at Stereogum.

Luke Haines/The Auteurs
I fucking love it when folk get in touch to help out, this blog isn't just all about me. I like the idea of it being more of a collective, we just need Boab and Susie to post a bit more! Anyway, I digress, thanks to a cracking fella who goes by the name of Colin, we have our first freebie of the week, it comes from Luke Haines who has a live Auteurs set up on his site which you can download for free.

22-20's
Mind these guys? they were tipped as being the English version of the White Stripes/Black Keys, they had the one tune on a car ad. I thought they'd chucked it in ages ago, so it was a nice surprise this week when I found out that they were coming back with a new line up, and more excitingly that they're giving away a free digital live EP called 'Latest Heartbreak'. In order to get a copy all you have to do is sign up to their mailing list.

Underworld
For me Underworld will always be the band that did the 'Trainspotting song', I was never that interested in anything else that they did. I saw them once at a festival in Spain and they really didn't do anything for me. Anyway, enough about me, for those of you out there that like(d) them, you might be interested to learn that they have made a new track, 'Scribble', available as a free download.

RW Hedges

Nude Pilots
Not since the Sexy Kids have we had a Scottish band name that might get you into shit with your IT department in work. They're giving away their new EP though, ain't that nice of them.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Matt Sweeney
They're putting a free single out through Adult Swim (the American cartoon network?), how the fuck that works I don't know, but it sounds class. It's free here.

Friday Freebies

we're only afraid of NYC
This week we have not one but two Scottish bands that I have been really enjoying, first up is the wonderfully named 'we're only afraid of NYC'. They gave their debut EP away for free a couple of months ago, it was good, and now they're doing the same with their second EP. In my opinion this is better, much better in fact. It's not just me that rates them, the lovely Lauren Laverne has been playing them on her 6Music show last week. The EP is available to download now on their Bandcamp page, if you like what you hear then check back next Wednesday as they're my next 'Scots Way-Hay' victims.

The Kays Lavelle
My other (joint) favourite release this week is the new single from the Kays Lavelle, 'The Hours', which is available to download for free from Wise Blood Industries. This song just simply sounds amazing (I was going to go with lush, but then I sound realised Gavin & Stacey's not cool anymore. Right? Fuck it I liked the first series). After hearing this I really can't wait to the hear the full album which is due out on the 17th of May, get it marked in you diary kids, it promises to be something pretty special.

el hombre trajeado
El Hombre Trajeado were a Glasgow band that emerged toward the end of 1996, they were very much at the forefront of DIY music from this fair city. In total they released three LPs, and one EP, all of which are available to download for free on their homepage, which you can find here.

Glissando
Kudos goes out to Euan from the Steinberg Principle blog (he's also in The Kays Lavelle, talented bugger that he is) for this little find. It's a live recording of the London shoegaze bands 2008 show at the Union Chapel in London, which is of course up for free download on their Bandcamp.

The Pipettes
Remember them? Surprised they're still going? Yeah me too, but hey fair play to them for sticking at it. I am pretty sure that one of the girls has left the band, but then again I have done hee-haw research on the matter. If you fancy seeing what they sound like these days (not very different to be honest), then you might be interested to know that they're giving away a free download of their single 'Our Love Was Saved By Spacemen'. You should know the drill by now, give them your email address and you get the song, piece of piss.

The Silent Forest
The folky-pop Glasweigans have a few tracks up for free download, just head here
and use the password 'brewhouse' and hey presto you've got yourself some free tunes. If you like what you head and fancy catching the Silent Forest live, then you're in luck as they're playing a free gig at the Mill next thursday (26th). To get tickets all you have to do to get a ticket is either text MILL14K to 82500 or go to the Mills site and register for tickets.

Have Fun At Dinner
If you haven't come across 'Have Fun At Dinner', a relatively new blog then I'd suggest you get that rectifiied. If my my word isn't good enough for you, then you might be swayed by the compilation 'A Glass of Scotch Volume 1' that he's just posted which 'demonstrate the caliber of up and coming bands in Scotland'. It includes tracks from Meursault, Eagleowl, The Last Battle, plus many others. Cracking stuff and before I forget, it's free, but then again I guess you saw that one coming.

The Magic Numbers

The worlds happiest band are giving away new song 'Hurt So Good' which will be on their forthcoming album, it's another one of those give your email address in exchange for the song. If that sounds like a fair deal to you, head here.

Maxwell Panther

The lo-fi Mackem experimentalists new album has just come out on Song By Toad Records, if you want a listen to what he sounds like before making an investment then you can check out his album 'All Ages and Body Types' which is free on his Bandcamp page.

Shooting Stansfield
Ian from Have Fun At Dinner posted about these guys earlier in the week, mighty fine they are too. If you sign up to their mailing list they'll give you a free download of their song 'Modern Warfare'.

Lawrence Arabia
6Music have been playing his song ' Apple Pie Bed' a fair bit this week, cracking tune it is too. You can download it for free on Bella Unions website, go on treat yourself.

THERE WILL BE NO FRIDAY FREEBIES NEXT WEEK AS I AM OFF ON HOLIDAY, SORRY FOLKS. HOWEVER, JIM SAID HE'D DO ONE ON AYETUNES SO HEAD ON OVER TO HIS PLACE NEXT FRIDAY.
