Fresh Meat Monday - Siobhan Wilson

Would you care to introduce yourself?

Hello my name is Siobhan Wilson and I play music and do other things too.

How would you describe the music you make?

When I make music I try to paint a picture of an emotion, a state of mind, an event, a wish and more. My new EP "Glorified Demons" has 6 songs which I wrote and recorded in Glasgow with Gordon Skene. Words I would use to describe them are escapist, moody, expressive, colourful.

How did you start out making music?

It all started when my grandparents gave us their piano after they moved house when I was 7. I fell in love with the cello and started composing when I was 13. It wasn't until I was 18 that I realised my voice was my favourite instrument. Gordon and I play all of the instruments heard on the EP.

What process goes into the way you write songs?

I try not to have a process because I get bored very easily of repeating the same things. My favourite way to record just now is to write lots and lots of songs, pick a couple of my favourite ones, show them to Gordon, then he dresses them up and makes them breathe.

What can people expect from your live shows?

Come along and find out at the next Spaced in the City event "Roots and Ruins Winter Festival" on the 3rd of November in Glasgow

What are you listening to at the moment?

Right this second I'm listening to my French friend Captain Kid's song "We and I".  I played a show with him in Paris last week and this is a lovelybeautiful song.

Before I sleep I sometimes listen to the whole of Sharon Van Eten "Because I was in Love".  At any time of the day, anywhere, pretty much anything by Chet Baker.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in the future?

Expect to see/hear a collaboration with Adam Stafford, another collaboration with Anoraak, another album produced by Gordon Skene, lots and lots and lots more live shows, some new covers, new videos, and lots more. Hopefully a new name once I actually think of one but I've been saying that for 2 years now and I'm still called Siobhan Wilson.

Siobhan's new EP, Glorified Demons is available to download now from Bandcamp. It's well worth £5, trust me!!
