Fresh Meat Monday - A Fight You Can't Win

Would you care to introduce yourself?

We're a four piece Rock/Punk/Grunge band based in Edinburgh.

You might have heard of us recently as being nominated for 'Best Metal' at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards which felt a bit odd  for us since we'd never describe ourselves as metal but we were delighted to be nominated anyway.

Paul: Bass/Vocals, Lesley: Guitar/Vocals, Sander: Drums, Matthew: Vocals/Guitar.  .

How would you describe the music you make?

Aggressive, catchy and noisy pop with sprinklings of horrific screaming - we try and avoid aiming for one specific genre or style but if pressed we'd probably say we're grunge or punk rock.

How did you start out making music?

Matthew and Paul grew up together back in Northern Ireland and were in bands together in their late teens.  They then moved to Edinburgh to break out of (what was then) a stale scene  in Nothern Ireland (which is now on of the most exciting ones in the world) and started a band with the ethos that songs had to be short, catchy and heavy as fuck.  Sander joined the ranks after they met him on a musicians forum and Lesley was introduced a year later by a mutual acquaintance.

What process goes into the way you write songs?

We've got a few different processes, sometimes Paul or Matthew will write a whole tune or Paul will bring riffs that Matthew builds into a song, then we get into the practice room and Lesley and Sander add their stamp to it.

What can people expect from your live shows?

Most likely to be offended deeply by the onstage banter - there are no boundaries really when it comes to what we'll say and most people with a shred of decency are quite shocked. But we do put on a highly energetic and exciting live performance at every gig - we want to make sure people enjoy it as much as we do.

We'd recommend ear plugs if you're not fond of a lingering ringing in your ears, we're pretty loud.

What are you all listening to at the moment?

Take A Worm For A Walk Week, Miasma, Fatalists (new tune out), Collar Up

What can we expect to see/hear from you in the future?

We have our new EP release one the 16th March at the Third Door in Edinburgh which will be available as a low cost download or physical cd from our bandcamp then we will be playing a fair amount of gigs over the summer, we're planning on getting over to Northern Ireland for a few gigs too.

Apart from that we're whoring ourselves about and trying to get as much positive press as possible
