Friday Freebies

This weeks Freebies is a bit shorter than normal, mainly cause I haven't had time to listen to all of the free stuff that I came across, so here's the best of what I found and liked...

Hercules Moments
I know I bang on about other Scottish blogs a lot on here, but fuck it, there's a lot going on out there. One site that I would suggest you add to your favourites is Aberdeen based blog, Hercules Moments, as they're a mighty fine site that promote a lot of great music from their city. This month they're giving away the Second in their series of compilations, featuring an array of local talent including artists such as The Little Kicks, The Deportees and Seas, Starry.

Domino Sampler
It seems as if Domino give away a free sampler on Amazon every other week, then again if I had as many great artists on my label I'd want to brag about it as much as possible. This wee sampler features free tracks from amazing artists such as King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, Steve Mason and Animal Collective. Download it for free here.

The Rapture

I don't know how the kids view The Rapture these days, but for me they always make me think that they were the epitome of cool. I guess that was probably true back in 2003, perhaps not so much now, having seen them numerous times over the years I can safely say they're one the best live bands I've had the pleasure of witnessing. Their last album might have been a bit of a disappointment, but having re-signed to DFA Records they seem to have regained some of their edge. You can make your own mind up downloading their new single 'How Deep Is Your Love?' for free in exchange for your email address.

Fool's Gold
Every time I hear this band getting mentioned on 6Music I start to expect the opening bars of the Stone Roses tune, initially I get pissed off, then I realise that I actually really like what I'm hearing. It's not a million miles away from Vampire Weekend, but they write catchy pop tunes and I'm all for that. You can download their song 'Street Clothes' for free over on CMJs website.

Make Sparks
Dundee pop rock outfit, Make Sparks, have made their song 'Apollo! Apollo!' the B-Side from their forthcoming single Your Heart's on Fire, available for free download. The band are on tour next month, dates and the free download can be found on their Bandcamp.

Wounded Knee
Edinburgh experimentalist, Wounded Knee has posted up a free download of his new track Auntie's Song, it's a beautiful wee number written for his Auntie Caroline who lost her brave man Pete after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Cymbals Eat Guitars
Stereogum have a free download of an MP3 from Cymbals Eat Guitars' new LP,"Definite Darkness", which you can find here.

The LaFontaines
Glasgow Hip Hop-Pop outfit The LaFontaines have made their debut single, Paper Chase, free to download here.
