Help Ma Boab, It's The 62-Word Review #4

Washington Irving - Little Wanderer, Head Thee Home
Ahh, this is very good. It sounds a little like Frightened Rabbit fired into a washing machine with The Waterboys and a ceilidh band for company. Islands is probably the standout but then again it’s hard to pick just one as Dear Liza’s huge climax and Phantom Buck’s driving bassline make this an excellent listen. Really must catch these guys live soon.

You can get Little Wanderer, Head Thee Home on iTunes and from Love Music Glasgow (formerly Avalanche Records).

Kid Canaveral - Shouting At Wildlife
If you don’t like Kid Canaveral there’s something wrong with you. Every track here has the potential to get throughly embedded into your skull to the point where you can’t think anymore, or hear anyone talking to you without the refrain of ‘Do you know something that I don’t know?’ or some other catchy refrain constantly resonating in your head. Great album.

Upstation - EP
I don’t really know how to approach this EP to be honest. Russian lads Upstation unashamedly pay homage to 80s acts such as Duran Duran and The Human League without necessarily offering any sort of modernisation of the 80s synth-pop they purvey. Whilst recent 80s throwbacks have worked very well(X-Lion Tamer for instance), Upstation have missed the bus. By about 25 years.
