Ones to Watch in 2010 #2 - Mitchell Museum

Day two and I've got another cracker for you, none other than Glasgow four piece Mitchell Museum. In my eyes they're the most exciting and innovative band to emerge from these shores in ages. Trying to pigeon hole their sound certainly isn't easy, they take elements of pop, folk, psych and electronica and blend it into something truly special. I managed to get a few words from the band, so get reading then check the links below.

Would you care to introduce yourself?
Hello my name is Cammy, and I’ll be answering your questions today. I play in a band called Mitchell Museum with 3 other boys. Their names are Dougie , Kris and my brother Raindeer....and we are all friends....apart from Kris and Dougie...they are enemies....and I hate Raindeer...which is a shame really.

How would you describe the music you make?
I find it very hard to describe the music we make....some people have said we sound like the Flaming lips, others have said we remind them of animal collective and another person once said we sound like Cast.....I don’t think we sound like Cast.

How did you start out making music?
We were all in different bands. The different bands split up. We went to a New Years Eve party. Raindeer was a bit drunk and found a piano and started “playing it”...with his fists. Dougie, Kris and myself joined Raindeer in his noise. People told us it sounded quite nice...so we made the noise into a band called Mitchell Museum. (That’s a very short version of what happened)

What process goes into the way you write songs?
Normally I’ll think about something that gets on my nerves and I’ll try to make a song out of that. Next I’ll make a demo of the song on my eight track. I’ll then give the demo to the other boys and they’ll make much better bass, drum and guitar parts for the song during a band practice...and that’s it really.

What can we expect to see/hear from you in 2010?
You can expect to see me kicking Dougie at our gigs. I don’t know why, but for some reason I’ve started kicking Dougie at the end of our shows... Don’t worry he kicks me back...in fact at the last gig he made me bleed. Aside from bleeding at gigs, we’re going to be making exciting new sounds come out of our recently purchased, and quite impossible to use, new samplers....hopefully. Probably most importantly, we’ve just finished our first album, and I think you’ll be hearing that some time soon. It’s called “The Peters Port Memorial Service”.... We really hope you like it.

Lastly, the question that’s on everyone’s lips is it possible to blow a balloon up under water?
After a lot of research....(mostly typing “blowing up a balloon under water” on YouTube) I have found out that it is possible to blow up a balloon under water......and here’s the scientific proof
