Sad news for Edinburgh gig goers

"MESSAGE FROM THE LIQUIDROOM TEAM
DEAR ALL,
IT IS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT WE ANNOUNCE THAT THE LIQUIDROOM IS NO MORE....FOR THE TIME BEING. AFTER THE HORRENDOUS FIRE THAT RIPPED THROUGH KHUSHIS ON FRIDAY NIGHT, WE HAVE UNFORTUNATELY BEEN THE VICTIM OF SEVERE WATER DAMAGE AND INTERNAL STRUCTURE COLLAPSE. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE WE ARE ALL IN SHOCK AND DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF AN EDINBURGH INSTITUTION , ESPECIALLY AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.
HOWEVER, WE ARE LOOKING TO THE FUTURE AND WILL BE BACK IN 2009 BIGGER AND BETTER THAN BEFORE. WE WANT TO THANK EVERYONE IN THE INDUSTRY FOR THEIR OVERWHELMING SUPPORT AT THIS TIME. IT REALLY MEANS A LOT.
WE WILL HAVE AN OFFICE UP AND RUNNING IN THE NEW YEAR WHERE ALL EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS WILL BE DIRECTED TO. CONTACTS DETAILS WILL BE THE SAME, BUT PLEASE BE PATIENT WHILE WE GET BACK ON OUR FEET.
ALL CHRISTMAS CLUBS INCLUDING STEREOTYPE AT NEW YEAR WILL NOW BE AT 'FAITH'.
ALL CHRISTMAS GIGS WILL NOW BE AT THE 'PICTURE HOUSE'.
ALL TIMES AND PRICES FOR ALL EVENTS WILL STAY THE SAME.
PROMOTERS, AGENTS AND ANY OTHER FORMAL BUSINESS CAN GET KATH - reveered@hotmail.com or on my mobile.
WE WISH YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
LOVE FROM MICK, KATH AND ALL THE LIQUIDROOM TEAM."

Under One Sky - The Songs EP

"The Songs EP is such a spectacular release from John McCusker’s Under One Sky. All 5 tracks are taken from the forthcoming album, which is to be released on 2 February 2009. The musical calibre on this EP alone is enough to motivate anyone to dig deep for the full album next year."

Featuring both Graham Coxon and Roddy Woomble, this EP offers a taster of what is to come from the album due early next year.

Frightened Rabbit - It’s Christmas So We’ll Stop
Source
"Frightened Rabbit this month won the coveted no 1 spot of The Skinny's album of the year. The band released 'The Midnight Organ Fight' this year to rave reviews including this 8.5 review from pitchfork - "Midnight Organ Fight is full of rousing barnburners that flicker with soul, ballads that ache with masculine vulnerability, and Frightened Rabbit's best song yet, opener "The Modern Leper". Built on insistently downstroked guitars and drums that build from a gallop to a thundering crash, this Pixies-go-acoustic track swells with self-loathing." Now a four piece band with the recently recruited Andy Monaghan, Frightened Rabbit are able to play many more songs from their new album, they would previously have struggled to fill out instrumentally.
See Frightened Rabbit at The Captain's Rest - 31st March 2009 for their final show on this album."

I can't stop listening to this track - 'collapsing at your doorstep'

It's by a band called Air France, from their EP 'No Way Down' (which I haven't heard yet), it's quite hypnotic, sounding a little bit like post-club St Etienne gone trippy, which wouldn't normally be up my street, but this song has me hooked.

Little Joy to tour UK
Last year Albert Hammond Jnr released his debut album, this year it's the turn of another member of the Strokes to show of their talent, step forward Fabrizio Moretti. He's teamed up two of his mates Binki Shapiro & Rodrigo Amarante and come up with this eponymous release. Pissing all over anything the Strokes have had to offer in the last few years this album would have made my Top 50 had I come across it in time (once the list was finalised there was no going back!). Anyhow, they're venturing over the Pond next month for some shows, tickets are on saleBrighton Audio (January 15)
